Ben Townsend / Software + infrastructure

CV

DEVELOPER / INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER / TECHNICAL LEAD

Products, platforms
and the awkward bits.

I've spent more than a decade building digital products and the infrastructure beneath them. I've led platform changes, cloud migrations and AI-assisted delivery. I'm happiest where the brief meets production, with enough distance to see the shape of the work and enough detail to know what needs fixing.

IN-HOUSE / TEAM DELIVERY

This is a list of in-house work rather than a gallery of client logos. I worked on these products as part of the teams behind them, mostly in publishing, where one platform has to support a lot of different brands.

HOW I WORK

A place for
the important bits.

01

The brief

Start with the problem.

What is the business trying to do? What does the team need to know? I'd rather answer those before choosing a tool.
02

The decision

Make the trade-off visible.

There is rarely a perfect answer. I write down the cost, risk and likely payoff so the team can choose.
03

The team

Give people room to work.

Clear ownership, a useful level of challenge and help when a decision is stuck.
04

The service

Stay for production.

A launch is not the end. I care about the alerts, the handover and whether the thing is still useful six months later.
TOOLS + WORKING METHODSee how I use agents,
with the checks left in.

OUTSIDE THE WORK

The same eye,
elsewhere.

01

On the move

Take the long way.

Trains, road routes and walking through a new place. I like seeing how somewhere works before I decide what I think of it.
02

At the table

Cook something good.

Food, friends and the satisfaction of getting the small things right.
03

At home

Make the room work.

Interiors, woodworking and smart-home projects. Some are better finished than others.
04

On screen

Keep an eye on the tools.

Consumer tech, infrastructure and AI. I'm interested in tools that take friction out of an actual job.
